RoHS

Our understanding is that from 1st July 2006 banned substances within the RoHS 1 Directive and RoHS 2 from 2nd January 2013 cannot be used in the supply of Electrical and Electronic Equipment and in Automotive sectors.

RoHS restricts the use of the following ten substances:

  1. Lead (Pb)

  2. Mercury (Hg)

  3. Cadmium (Cd)

  4. Hexavalent chromium (Cr6+)

  5. Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB)

  6. Polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE)

  7. Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)

  8. Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP

  9. Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)

  10. Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)

Hexavalent Chromate (Cr6) is probably the most relevant substance for our industry when used as part of the passivation process with Zinc Plating; commonly this will be replaced with Trivalent Cr3.

We now plate all our fasteners and fixings with Trivalent Cr3 Passivation and have been doing so since early 2017, and are stated on the labels of the goods.

We have been supplying RoHS compliant fasteners of various types to the electrical and automotive sectors since the deadline of 1st July 2006.
