Strengthening Industry Ties as Mark Dorrington Joins BIAFD

Monday, 9 September 2024

We are thrilled to announce that our Business Development Director, Mark Dorrington, will be joining the BIAFD as part of the Admin group!

Who are the BIAFD?

BIAFD, British & Irish Association of Fastener Distributors, stands as a cornerstone in the fastener distribution industry, representing British fastener distributors for seventy years and counting. Offering training, support, market insights, product standardisation and more, BIAFD has also been one of the founding members of the European Fastener Distributor Association (EFDA). Both have played an important role when it comes to representing the interests of fastener distributors with the UK Government, especially when it comes to opposing the imposition of trade measures that unnecessarily distort global trade in fasteners.

BIAFD now has a wide and varied membership totaling more than one hundred companies, ranging from the largest fastener wholesalers and importers in the UK through to smaller family-owned local businesses. Its members serve virtually every kind of fastener application, covering the likes of the automotive, manufacturing, assembly, maintenance, construction and building sectors.

Meet Mark Dorrington

Mark has over three decades of experience within the wholesale fastener industry. Having begun his career as a commercial manager with a nails and fixing wholesaler based in Merseyside, Mark soon climbed up the ranks moving to commercial director where he then took the opportunity to work at Harrison & Clough. After moving to Harrison & Clough, Mark worked with us for eight years, which saw him climb to Head of Purchasing and Marketing. After a brief stint away, Mark then returned as Business Development Director in 2022.

Mark has had an integral role in maintaining Harrison & Clough’s excellent customer service standard, driving product expansion and keeping us ahead on legislation for all things fastener, steel, importing and wholesale. As an industry leader, he's even been featured in the likes of Torque Magazine discussing the safety-critical application of fasteners in rail.

Now working closely with BIAFD, Mark will contribute to the development of the UK’s fastener standards and specifications, while representing the fastener industry when it comes to debating incoming regulations such as the UK CBAM. Mark’s membership within the BIAFD is testament to his wealth of expertise in fixings and fasteners.

What This Means for Harrison & Clough

For us at Harrison & Clough, having a presence within BIAFD is a significant milestone. As a Yorkshire-based distributor, our involvement within BIAFD further underscores our brand’s integrity and position as thought leaders in the industry.

We are excited to be able to contribute further to key developments within the fastener industry!
